May 21, 2009- Berlin Day 1

After we landed in Berlin, we went straight to our hotel (five blocks from the airport) to drop off our luggage. Jet lagged and half asleep, we took a walking tour of Berlin. We saw all the famous sights and got to know the town. Later in the day we had some free time so Joy and I went to the top of the TV Tower. There was a plethera of gypsies begging for money and if we heard the phrase "Speak English?" from one of them one more time we may have gone insane. Before dinner, we went the a German pub where Millikin paid for my first ever German beer. Then we had a traditional Russian meal to end our first night in Germany.

Airplane!!

So, we flew Lufthansa and it was a pretty good ride! My legs were far too long for the seat I was in but that's to be expected when you're 5'7" and mostly leg. The service was good, we got hot towels before dinner and breakfast. I watched "Last Chance Harvey" and "Marley and Me" (not a good choice for planes unless you enjoy cryingyour eyes out in public). The paper thin blankets were wrapped in plastic so that's sanitary I guess... Halfway through the flight we were informed that we would need to fill out a form for Swine Flu and there were doctors waiting for us when we landed in Dusseldorf. Joy and I were watching "Meercat Manor" and decided that the "boom di-yadda" commercial is epic. Once we landed, we had to go through security and the passport checkpoint. The metal detector went off for both Joy and myself and we had the pleasure of getting felt up by the lovely female German security guard! After that ordeal (and finding out that the underwire in my bra sets off German metal detectors) we reached the passport checkpoint where the officer was quite pleasant and welcomed me to Germany. Then we were off to Berlin! The short plane ride to Berlin was uneventful and somewhat boring... but hey, we made it!
